Presentation of the subjects and discussion of case studies. Conferences delivered by environmental specialists (academics and professionals) to introduce the most challenging environmental issues.
Learning Outcomes
- Knowlege about the different environmental issues covered by the 1st Cycle in Environmental Engineering, as well as about the main principles, concepts, methodologies and tools included and their application in real world problems by Environmental Engineers. Knowlege about the profession of Environmental Engineer.
- Knowlege about the evolution of how environmental problems are tackled and about the relation environment/sustainable development.
- Sensitivity to the challenging environmental problems.

1.The role of the course in the 1st cycle in Environmental Engineering. Environmental Sciences/Environmental Engineering.
2.Main environmental concerns and challenges. Historical perspective. SDGs.
3.Some relevant international agreements and landmarks: Meetings, Reports, Protocols, Agreements. Helsinki conference, Limits to Growth- Club of Rome Report, Bruntland Commission. UN Events: World summits, Climate Conventions, COPs conferences, SDGs, etc.
4.Some relevant international agreements. EU and national environmental programs and legislation.
5.Main environmental issues and threats. Environmental accidents: natural an man made accidents. (Portuguese Environment Report).
6. State of Environment Degradation Factors. Overexploitation of resources and ecological footprint.
7. Major Environmental Issues and Environmental Disasters
8.Management and regulation.
