Teaching Methods

The current teaching model introduces the theoretical foundations and subsequently discusses problems and case studies, challenging the students to a critical participation.   

Learning Outcomes

It is intended that students become familiar with banking operations associated with investment activity. It is also intended that students are able to understand the practices and trends in the banking sector in relation to investment activity, particularly, in its main segments: financial advice; privatizations, mergers and acquisitions; issuance and underwriting of debt securities and capital, including the organization of banking syndicates; financing of international trade and project finance; and management of financial assets.

Skills to be developed:

- to understand the main banking operations associated with investment activity;

- to identify the major trends in key segments of investment banking;

- to understand how investment banking supports customers in financing activities, in particular the techniques of project finance;

- to analyze the main issues related with mergers and acquisitions

 I - Introduction to investment banking 

II – Main investment banking trends:

-      financial advice;

-      privatizations;

-      mergers and acquisitions;

-      issuance and underwriting of debt securities and capital, including the organization of banking syndicates;

-      financing of international trade and project finance;

-      management of financial assets.

III – Specific features of financing techniques with constrained resources: “project finance”.

IV – The role of investment banking in mergers and acquisitions.
