Recommended Prerequisites
First year course with prerequisites defined from the national entrance exams.
Teaching Methods
Teaching methodologies:
Classical lectures with presentation of the matters by the teacher and their discussion with the students, in the theoretical classes.
Theoretico-Practical classes for solving exercises.
Laboratory classes with application of theory to laboratoratory practice.
Learning Outcomes
Goals:
To give students a theoretical knowledge of different areas of chemistry important to the degree in Geology. The chair of General Chemistry I covers the teaching of the composition of matter, the fundamentals of chemical energy and thermodynamics, solutions and colligative properties, chemical equilibria in solutions, homogeneous and oxidation-reduction, chemical kinetics and molecular spectroscopy together with some basic knowledge in organic chemistry.
Specific skills (Dublin descriptors):
1.1 - how to recognize and use theories and concepts
1.2 - how to analyze and summarize information
2.1 - Apply knowledge to address problems
3.1 - Process and interpret quantitative data
4.1 - to understand and use information sources
4.2 - Transmitting knowledge appropriately acquired
5.1 - to develop skills appropriate to be autonomous
5.2 - to know how to evaluate self-performance.
