Teaching Methods

Classes with introduction to the subject, iconography presentation and establishing dialogue and interpellating students for active participation and leading them to reflect on the problems presented. Seminars based on the resolution of problematic situations, after prior distribution of tasks to be held in small groups. After workshops students will produce a report that will translate the formulation of steps, discussion of assumptions and results analysis. Development of decision-making algorithms.

Learning Outcomes

The student should be able to: understand the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying fertility and infertility; select and interpret diagnostic tests for the evaluation of male and female conditions more often involved in subfertility; advise on the implications of behaviors and lifestyle on human fertility; understand the fertility control methods, their indications and contraindications and be able to advise on this matter; discuss the indications, methods, results, limitations and ethical aspects of the ART; select relevant information on a perspective of evidence based medicine; understand the concept of Oncofertility and discuss its applications in medical practice;  discuss legislation on health and genetic information; recognize the need for continuous updating and self-learning and the value of work in a multidisciplinary team in Medicine.

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF REPRODUCTION: HHO axis; reproductive and sexual history. Amenorrhea, endometriosis, tubal disease and congenital abnormalities of the uterus. Abnormal ejaculation. Male subfertility: hypogonadism and azoospermia. Gametogenesis, fertilization and embryo development. PATHOLOGY OF REPRODUCTION: endocrine disease, autoimmunity and fertility. Policystic ovaries. Endocrine disruptors. Menopause. Genetics of Reproduction. Reproductive failure.  Medical and surgical TREATMENT of infertility. Medically Assisted Reproduction. CONTROL, PROTECTION AND PRESERVATION OF FERTILITY: Fertility and contraception. Lifestyle and epidemiology of subfertility. Exercise, obesity, smoking, STD. The protection of fertility. Oncofertility DECISIONS IN REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH: pregnancy planning. Ethical and legal aspects. Third party reproduction. Multiple pregnancies. Health information.
