Teaching Methods

Lectures and tutorials on the theory, dogmatics and case law.

Classes consist of a systematic presentation of the topics leading as much as possible to a vivid discussion with the students. Resort to constitutional case law, as well as European and comparative case-law, along with statisc data, is meant to enhance “real world experience”.

 

  

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course students are expected to master the core topics of Portuguese Social Security Law and relate it to the international, comparative and EU law framework. The chief challenges currently faced by the social security systems will be considered too as they help students to develop critical skills that will enable them assess the Portuguese social security system. As part of the bridge between law on the books and law in action, the course includes case study in order to make students more aware of the way the law ought to be linked to the organizational and administrative practice.

Part III. Main lines of Social Security in Portugal

1.Welfare system; 2. Citizenry social protection system; 3. Complementary system; 4. Convergent social protection system.
