Elective
2nd Cycle Studies - Mestrado
Recommended Prerequisites
Students must have a theoretical knowledge of the concepts of violence, peace, development and humanitarianism, as well as a critical awareness of the actors, processes and dilemmas present in the dynamics of global interventionism.
Teaching Methods
The seminar will be organised in modules and will consist of debates on the different topics and practical experiences in the three fundamental areas: peace, development and humanitarianism.
Learning Outcomes
The aim of this seminar is to allow students to articulate and confront the theoretical and conceptual knowledge acquired in the other seminars through (1) close contact and dialogue with invited experts with practical experience in the areas of peace, development and humanitarianism; (2) critical analysis of documentaries which focus on these topics; and (3) simulation exercises and group work where students have the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice. The seminar includes mainstream and institutional experiences and voices from the field, as well as more critical perspectives on global interventionist dynamics, thus allowing students to support their own analyses on the basis of the divergent and convergent perspectives presented and discussed in class.
