Syllabus

The various types of materials as biomaterials. Polymers, ceramics and metals. Composites. Main applications in various areas of medicine. Physical and chemical properties of different biomaterials. Thermal and mechanical properties. Modification and characterisation of surfaces. Wettability of biomaterials. Sterilization.
Synthesis of polymers. Natural polymers. Biodegradable materials. Hydrogels. Systems of controlled drug release. Biomaterial interaction with organisms. Biocompatibility. Modelling of composites with application in the field of biomaterials.
