Teaching Methods

In this course the students have the opportunity to directly discuss with national and international scientists, specialists in various areas of cell biology. These scientists will share with the students their own research work as well as the most recent advances in cutting-edge science and technologyn in their field. This will constitute a privilege environment for students to discuss, in a very informal way, with reputed scientist themes the students intend to investigate during their PhD research work.   

Besides the seminars, the course will include a practical component (hands on).

Learning Outcomes

The main objective of this course is to provide students with basic technical and scientific knowledge in areas related with biomedical research, including cell and molecular biology, physiology and molecular mechanisms of disease and development of new therapeutical strategies. The competencies gathered in this course allow the students to understand and integrate other more advanced and differentiated scientific contents covered in other specialized courses

Syllabus

Seminars and talks given by national and international highly reputed scientists in the areas of molecular and cell biology, cell signalling, physiology, regenerative medicine, gene therapy, new therapeutical approaches, etc. These themes will be presented in an integrative, comprehensive and coherent manner, from the cell and molecular mechanisms to the disease, discussed by clinicians in the context of biomedical research. Whenever possible the students will have the opportunity to develop, in a lab environment (hands on), some of the contents covered in the seminars.
