Teaching Methods

This curricular unit will be carried out based on an interactive and participative teaching in the research project either by means of the participation in meetings of researchers or by means of the contact with laboratory and field activities that allow observing and collecting information to elaborate the final report. The participation of the student in the research  project is carried out by means of a systematic tutorial mentoring, either in classroom based sessions or using ITC.     

Learning Outcomes

To acquire knowledge about the theories, concepts and scientific research methods used in the field of knowledge in which the participation in research activities is carried out, under the supervision of one or more instructors; to acquire skills about the critical procedures associated to the organization and implementation of a research project; to acquire critical awareness about the role played by the students in the co-building of a solid and participatory scientific community; to acquire basic skills in the areas of critical thinking, scientific writing and the elaboration of brief reports about the goals, procedures and results associated with a specific research project; to acquire knowledge and skills on the ethical procedures to be used in specific research projects, especially when they involve human participants; to be able to effectively integrate the research team, displaying teamwork skills.

Syllabus

Specific knowledge (1. Critical review of the state of the art; 2. Analysis of the contribution of the research project to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the field in which it is integrated; 3. Presentation of the methodology used (participants, instruments/equipment, form(s) of analysis of the data collected) and guidance about the participation of the student in the various phases of the project; 4. Presentation of the ethical procedures and of the devices used to guarantee its full compliance; 5. Guidance in the writing of scientific report comprising the activities carried out by the student, under the supervision of the researcher(s)/instructor(s).
