Recommended Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry.

Teaching Methods

Theorectical and practical classroom teaching: application of theoretical knowledge to practical problems through the collection and analysis of hydrogeological information, using appropriate methodologies and techniques.

Fieldwork: groups of students plan and execute the field work.

Project: written work where the students use self-learning skills.

Learning Outcomes

The course aims to:

1. increase the awareness of students to the problems of water in Earth and for the knowledge of hydrogeology;

2. offer basic training in hydrodynamics and hydrochemistry of natural porous media for the hydrogeological characterization and classification of rock formations and water bodies;

3. provide knowledge of the surface water and the groundwater resources in Portugal.

Skills to develop:

• Instrumental: competence in analysis and synthesis, skills to solve problems, competence in oral and written communication, computer knowledge concerning the scope of the study.

• Personal: competence in critical thinking and competence in working in interdisciplinary teams.

• Systemic: competence in applying theoretical knowledge in practice, competence in planning and managing, concern for quality, competence in autonomous learning.
