Elective
1st Cycle Studies
Recommended Prerequisites
General Geology, Mineralogy, Structural Geology.
Teaching Methods
Lectures with detailed explanation of concepts, principles, theories, models and applications of engineering geology. Strong emphasis on the ability of observation and interpretation of the data obtained.
Theoretical-practical classes in which students solve exercises involving geotechnical classifications of soils, soil phases, interstitial water pressures and kinematics analysis of the stability of slopes in rock masses.
Learning Outcomes
1 - Use concepts and principles of engineering geology in order to assess the importance of this branch of knowledge.
2 - Plan, execute and interpret the results of geological and geotechnical studies, using for this purpose the methods and techniques suitable for field and laboratory.
3 - Propose concrete solutions, monitor the implementation of the field work and propose its adaptation to any changes to existing constraints.
4 - Prepare, process, interpret and communicate in oral and written forms, the results obtained during the studies and perform.
5 - Ability to understand the importance of engineering geology as appropriate to a better quality of life support, as well as to maximize the safety, economy and durability material works (dams, roads or concrete ).
