Teaching Methods

Theoretical and practical lessons. Seminars with discussions on the main features of Russian literature in each of the periods under study. Analysis and commentary of some written documents and audiovisual materials. Reading and analysis of several masterpieces of Russian literature translated into the Portuguese language.

Learning Outcomes

- To acquire basic notions and to critically reflect on the development stages of Russian literature from its early years to the present day;

 

- To help the students broaden their professional competence in the field of Russian literature

 

- To be familiarized with the system of literary genres necessary in order to analyze various texts and works;

 

- To be familiarized and know how to use the reference bibliography and online literature as a research tool in order to obtain information about Russian literature.

Syllabus

1.The Slavic Mythology and the Oral Tradition of the Russian People: epic, lyric and folk tales

2.Russian Literature in the 11th-17th centuries: the creation of writing and the production of the first literary texts; the development of different types of writing and the normalization of the literary language

3.The Literary Scene in 18th century Russia: the transition from medieval to modern and the secularization of literature; characteristic traits of Russian Classicism; the Sentimentalism and the first signs of Realism

4.The Literary Scene in 19th century Russia: the literary movements of Russian Romanticism and some reference authors; aspects of the phenomenon of Russian Realism and some noted authors. The development of literary contacts between Portugal and Russia

5.The Literary Scene in 20th century Russia: modernism and vanguard in Russian literature in the dawn of the 20th century; the Soviet period in Russian literature; the state of Russian literature in the last decades.
