Methods

Syllabus topics are developed through introductory explanations, supplemented by class discussions and empirical data analysis. The teaching method thus intersects lectures and student collaboration.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing the course, the student is expected to:

a)             be able to identify the word classes to which specific Portuguese words belong, based on formal (morphosyntactical) criteria;

b)            be capable of recongizing the internal constituents of morphologically complex words;

c)             be capable of recongizing word-formation precesses in Portuguese;

d)            be able to aply the metalingusitic constructs developed thoughout the course in communicative (written and oral) uses of the language.

The course aims at developing in students:

a)             explicit and systematized knowledge regarding formal (especially morphological and syntactical) properites of words in Portuguese;

b)            the capacity to identify the forms and funtions of the internal constituents of morphologically complex words;

c)             expanded receptive and productive PL2 lexicons.

3. Variable and invariable words.

3.2. Aspects of verb and noun inflection.

4. Open and closed word classes.

4.1. Productive  word formation processes:
