Recommended Prerequisites

The course units Introduction to Educational Research, Chemistry Didactics I and Chemistry Didactics II, of the 1st year of this course.

Teaching Methods

This is a tutorial curricular unit that is supervised or co-supervised by teaching staff of the Chemistry Department . The students´ assessment is translated in a mark awarded by a juri based on: i) the work undertaken by each student, ii) the written report concerned and iii)  the public presentation and discussion.

Learning Outcomes

It is intended that, within the framework of the Education System Basic Law and of the national strategy for development, students in chemical education contexts:

-Identify a problem to investigate;

- Contextualize the research and justify its pertinence and educational importance, including disciplinary, social, ethical and cultural dimensions;

- Undertake literature search and discussions necessary to support, plan and conduct research, draw conclusions, identify implications and limitations;

- Devise an well structured written report of the investigation including those used and properly written references;

- Be aware of: i) the inherent challenges of inclusive schools and promoting the culture and skills of civic citizenship; ii) the need and importance of research in contexts of education in chemistry.
