The unit is organized in seminar sessions with two distinct models of organization. A group of sessions include an initial presentation by the lecturer/professor in charge or by a guest speaker, followed by an open discussion. A second group of sessions, led by one or two students, are dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the thesis projects in progress, and of resulting topics for discussion, followed by open discussion.
Learning Outcomes
This Seminar is oriented towards the preparation and discussion of the research projects of the students. The students are expected to participate actively in a number of sessions on research methods, preparation and organization of a doctoral dissertation, as well as on empirical research methods. The seminar includes components oriented towards the presentation and discussion of the principles of organization and elaboration of a doctoral dissertation, writing principles and practices, the presentation of results, the articulation between theoretical perspectives and empirical work as well as different methodological approaches through the collaboration of lecturers with expertise on the different themes and approaches. All students have to submit their preliminary research project and subsequent developments to the critical judgment of the lecturers and of their peers, with the aim of promoting academic exchange and concrete thematic and methodological reflections.
