Teaching Methods

Teaching model fundamentally theoretical and practical, combining in a balanced way, theoretical presentations, presentation and discussion of case studies in all the covered subjects, challenges of intense critical participation by the students (including the resolution of practical problems) and also laboratory sessions where direct contact with the execution of different tests commonly used as complementary techniques for inspection and diagnosis will be possible.

Learning Outcomes

The intervention in the built heritage has to be preceded by a preliminary phase of determination of its morphology, geometry, physical and mechanical characteristics of its constituents. In the particular case of the occurrence of anomalies we face a very complex task that is determining the causes of these anomalies from the observation of its effects.

This complexity results from factors such as the possibility of the occurrence of various causes / effects that can confuse or even mutually condition or  the difficulty that can be felt when trying to establish a relationship between cause and effect.

The first step in this complicated process must be the inspection of the building to make it possible to undertake a correct diagnosis.

In this course inspection techniques, monitoring and analysis relating to structural and non-structural anomalies will be presented. Complementarily to the analyzes performed in-situ laboratory characterization techniques will be presented.
