Whenever possible, the students will have the opportunity to attend practical classes in a lab environment

Learning Outcomes

With this curricular unit, students are expected to have a first contact with excellence research, in the biomedic field, that is developed within the School. In this context, students will be exposed to several research projects, undertaken by FMUC Teachers/Researchers, addressing various scientific questions, and using diverse techniques and methodologies. Everytime it is possible, projects should have a multidisciplinary nature, in order to provide an integrative and complementary view of the research process, in fields with high clinical relevance. Within the scope of this CU, students are also intended to acquire the necessary skills to build a research project proposal, being capable of identifying and selecting a set of methodologies and techniques that are appropriate to test a specific scientific hypothesis.

Syllabus

In this CU, several topics will be presented and discussed, in the form of seminars, in specialization fields of the lecturers. Tipically, these presentations will focus on research projects developed by FMUC teachers and researchers, and should promote the critical and active participation of students. This UC is part of a structured, integrative and coherent strategy of the various CU dedicated to Scientific Research. Thus, given its articulation with the "Research Project" CU, these seminars will serve as a first contact of students with contents and themes for the research projects that they may undertake. In addition to scientific Seminars, the elaboration of research prjoects will also be addressed, allowing students to acquire skills in designing a research project proposal.
