Teaching Methods

Lessons are mainly expository and communicative. Multi-media will be used.

Evaluation is based upon: the student’s performance at the lessons (presence, manifestation of interest, interaction) 20%, homework (mainly copies of the essential words) 20%, presentation about Chinese culture/politics/economy 30%, final exam (presentation in Chinese, or conversation in Chinese) 30%.

Learning Outcomes

This course intends to provide some essential Chinese expressions for daily usage, as well as some cultural, political and economical aspects of the contemporary Chinese society.

At the end of this course, students should be able to make a simple presentation in Chinese, about themselves, about their families and about their daily routine; make a simple dialogue in basic Chinese; know some important and actual aspects of the modern Chinese society.

  1. General presentation about the course; fundamental aspects of the Chinese languages and the history of Putonghua (Mandarin); introduction to the pin-yin system and writing of the characters; definition (along with the students) of the cultural, political and economical topics.
