Teaching Methods

Presentations, readind assignments supplemented with class discussions and empirical data analysis.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing the course, the student is expected to:

- master the core concepts covered in the syllabus;

- correlate a number of linguistic structures in Portuguese with different communicative goals, in  distinct social contexts of interaction;

- identify the discourse strategies used in Portuguese to express politeness;

- be aware of the cohesive discourse devices in Portuguese;

- be able to develop, with autonomy, a research project  on the Portuguese language, in the area of Pragmatics.
