Teaching Methods

Face to face sessions combine teacher lectures with an active hands-on approach, by which students are required to discuss specific issues and comment on reading assignments and/or other relevant didactic materials for teaching Portuguese both as L1 and as L2. Topic 4 of the syllabus offers students the opportunity to produce didatic resources for specific purposes.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing  the course, the student is expected to:

1. General skills:

- be able to define, with guided supervision, adequate research goals;

- be capable of selecting, with autonomy, credible and relevant information in the light of the research goals defined;

- plan and write an essay/report on the research carried out, and to present it orally.

2. Specific skills:

- understand the scope and goals of Educational Linguistics;

- acknowledge forms of interaction between metalinguistic knowledge and linguistic and communicative ativities;

- propose didactic approaches for different teaching-learning contexts of Portuguese as L1 and L2.
