Syllabus

The syllabus is structured by different units of approach to the subject, organized according to a diachronical view of the contents being discussed. In a first moment, the focus is on the emergence of the tourism phenomenon and its territorial translation, a process in which Architecture and Urban Planning play a relevant role as mechanisms of localization and spatial construction of leisure time. In a second moment, we witnesses the massification of tourist practices in consequence of the growing democratization of paid holidays and of the access to means of transport. Extended to a global scale, Tourism fuels the exploitation of places as products, in which image and identity work as distinctive values. In this new context, Architecture and Urban Planning assume a different protagonism, presenting, on the one hand, themselves as tourism attractions and, on the other, as a guarantee of the visual and spatial quality of the environments created for tourist use and consumption.
