Recommended Prerequisites

There are no mandatory prerequisites. It is desirable a prior knowledge of Building Materials.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical and Practical classes with predominantly expository character, using audio-visual media and frequent use of large digital photo archives relating to aspects of building construction.

Two classes are devoted to the presentation of works of groups of students on research topics in the field of construction, rehabilitation and sustainability, which they selected during the semester.

Learning Outcomes

Provide students with knowledge about building systems in buildings and primary elements of construction, emphasizing the connection relation between their performance and characteristics, face to the functional requirements (structural and non-structural). It is also included a brief, but systematic approach to building pathology, under the scope of defects prevention and risk mitigation.

Formative achievements expected:

a) Knowledge and ability to design primary building elements, with knowledge and awareness of their functional requirements and technological constraints of its implementation.

b) Knowledge and ability to basic inspection and survey of buildings to identify the most common non-structural defects and their avoidable causes.

c) Upgrade the ability to interdisciplinary dialogue in the field of of building construction technologies.
