Recommended Prerequisites

All units of the 1st Cycle Studies and Design Studio I, Urbanism, Urbanization, Urbanística, Humanities.

Historical and theoretical knowledge of territorial planning and urbanism.

Skills in analysis, synthesis, organization and strategic planning.

Teaching Methods

Lectures: presentation and discussion of key concepts ant theories relating the syllabus

Theoretical-practical classes: direct and continuous monitoring of the student in developing a practical exercise

Lectures by professors and professionals from urbanism, architecture, administrative law and economics

Study visits to the areas of intervention and exemplary places.

Learning Outcomes

Adequate knowledge of urban design and planning

Understand and test the tools of territorial management and urban planning.

Understand in an integrated manner the issues of the safeguard of heritage sites and urban rehabilitation in contemporaneity as public policies.

Develop skills of perception and critical evaluation to support and create urban management strategies, focusing on inner city and historic urban landscapes.

Domain of the scales and tools of urban planning for direct intervention in the existing with the rehearsal of  setting the terms of reference of an urban project in historic urban landscapes

1. Territorial Planning as a Public Policy:

Instruments of Territorial Planning and Management: National Policy Programme Planning (NPPP) and Local Land-Use Plans (LLuP). 

2. Policies, Strategies and Tactics in Urban Management:

Urban disaggregation; Heritage safeguard in the inner city; Urban rehabilitation; Building rehabilitation; Requalification of public spaces.

3. Urban Morphology and the intervention on the existing city:

Urbanistic heritage; Tensions, dialogues and complementarities between the New and the Old.

5. Planning Regulations and Public Space:

Normative, Permits and Licenses.
