Learning Outcomes
The subject of Theory of Architecture I is devoted to the analysis of a wide range of case studies of contemporary Portuguese architecture, works built in the second half of the 20th century. Simultaneously, the reading of the historical context of the international architectural culture allows establishing relations with the cases in question, providing elements of theoretical and critical analysis. The concepts of Crisis, Ruin, Places, Regionalism, Communication, History, Pop, Monument, Social, Fragmentation, and Sacred, discussed in the general framework of its cultural, political, historical, artistic and philosophical significance, then serve as a reading key to a set of Portuguese contemporary architecture works, which are introduced as operational examples. The aim is thus to make known the architectural production in Portugal from the perspective of theoretical and critical voices, relevant and performative concepts in the contemporary framework.
