Recommended Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Teaching Methods

Classes will comprise an oral presentation of the conceptual framework from the teacher, after which students will carry out computational exercises using the selected applications (Excel and Access) and develop a group project under teacher supervision

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the term, students, should be able to:

- Differentiate between data and information

- Identify and characterize the main types of organizational information systems

- Understand the concept of Business Intelligence, as well as the main steps and components of a Business Intelligence process/system

- Distinguish between transactional processing and analytical processing, and their different implications

- Understand and be able to apply the Relational Model basic principles

- Recognize the potential of  Microsoft Excel e Microsoft Access as data management and information production tools (self-service Business Intelligence)

- Plan and implement a simple management information system (Business Intelligence) using the select tools.
