Teaching Methods

All sessions will be coordinated by one of the teachers; however, students are expected to take part in the debate, including in the open sessions and the Gender Workshop series. Texts proposed by students will be presented by whoever proposes them. All students should present their work-in-progress at various stages, subject to collective debate.

25% of the sessions may be replaced by the participation in conferences and similar events, if related to this area of studies, to be included in the final report.

Learning Outcomes

This seminar has two main aims: 1. to provide the students with the contact with state-of-the art research done on Feminist Studies/ Women Studies/ Gender Studies in different disciplinary fields, produced in different Research Centers, Schools and Universities; 2. to supply the academic environment for the student to present, reflect and discuss the theoretical framework, the hypotheses and the research in progress of her/his own PhD project. Students are expected to acquire: knowledge about the more recent and cutting-edge work done in the field; further skills for doing autonomous research at PhD level; capability for interdisciplinary debate; the ability to support their work on scientifically tested arguments to be able to engage in dialogue with recognized academic work as well as relevant research projects in progress.

Syllabus

The syllabus includes the following session types: 1: public sessions, with invited guests, experts on Feminist Studies, from other schools and universities and preferably from disciplinary fields not covered by the programme. This occasionally includes PhD students from other universities at an advanced stage of their work and whose research is deemed to be of interest for the group. 2. sessions for the discussion of academic texts put forward by the students for being of particular importance for their individual projects; 3. participation in the Gender Workshop Series at the Center for Social Studies, also offering contributions from different disciplinary fields and open to a wider audience; 4. Sessions consisting of oral presentations of projects and /or work-in-progress and partial research results.
