Teaching Methods

This class is in seminar format. Lectures are provided by external professors or researchers invited to participate in class activities, in close collaboration with the R&D unit of the Center for the History of Society and Culture. Students will be encouraged to produce a final report and actively participate in classes. Evaluations are based on the various work to be completed.

Learning Outcomes

This class should ensure that at the end of the semester students will have: knowledge of the most recent European and American historiographical trends on medieval, modern and contemporary history; acquired skills in relation to these reconfigurations of historical phenomenon and the challenges posed by new technological documents and virtualization of files; learned to apply methodologies for interdisciplinary research, using the intersection of complex knowledge and information; awareness of problems of the present time and for the renewal of historiographical sources.

Syllabus

Based on practical and innovative cases, this class aims to provide a knowledge of the various temporalities and subject areas of knowledge:

1. Methods and potential of comparative history

2. Documents: from real to virtual. The diversity of sources and the questioning of archival documentation.

3. Historical objectivity, ethical issues and the dangers of instrumentalization of sources.
