Teaching Methods

The seminar uses continuous evaluation: presentation of content, clarification of doubts and tasks assigned  by the professors; presentation and discussion of comments and tasks by students.

Learning Outcomes

The aim is to deepen the knowledge of the subjects concerned both in Portugal in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and on a European and global scale.  Students will analyze different readings by researchers in history and other social sciences.  Focuses attention on the study of verifiable interactions between political and administrative institutions, "civil society" organizations and individuals.  We will also cover the most specific problems of women's history, anti-Semitism and the patrimonialization of material culture.

 

Students will acquire capabilities for collecting, processing, and preparing objective ("scientific") speeches characterizing the aspects of the Portuguese reality throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries; integration of the same in European and global contexts; analysis of the problems of women's history, anti-Semitism and the patrimonialization of material culture.

4. Cycles of economic activity.  Companies and sectors.

6. Scientisms, "social Darwinism" and antisemitism.

7. Patrimonialization of material culture and memory.
