Basic skills in English or French as well as in Spanish.

Teaching Methods

The class is structured in a seminar format. Each class is three hours long. The study of issues is linked to the research of documentary sources. The literature review and presentation of topics, guided by the professor seeks the participation of students in all seminar sessions, preparation of a research paper and presentation of a final report.

Learning Outcomes

Acquisition of knowledge and skills that enable a deeper understanding of and the ability to conduct studies and research in the field of Social and Cultural History.  Mastery of theoretical concepts and development of skills in planning, operationalization of acquired knowledge, resolution of specific issues and making judgments in situations of complex information.  Students will be encouraged to carry out applied research to the field of modern history, assuming the responsibility for the promotion of knowledge, teaching and communication of the historical legacy as an act of cultural and social responsibility.

Families: marriage, sexuality, stages of life and death: norms, attitudes, values and differentiated behaviors.

Religious minorities and confessional surveillance

Transgression and violence: crimes and punishments

 

3 Representations of Urban Life

Intimate space, memorial writings and romance

The art of living well: civility, etiquette and principles of sumptuous consumption

Clothing and fashion: gender distinctions

Meetings, lounges, shows, games and parties

The portrayal of everyday life in painting, theater and tiles

The emergence of the public sphere: Police and Urban life.
