Recommended Prerequisites

Sound Knowledge of italian language, culture and literatures; one of the main languages used in critical discourse.

Teaching Methods

1) Theoretical exposition with a view to providing knowledge.

2) Presentation of research results and projects by students.

3) Debate of ideas and exchange of experiences.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the seminar, students must:

1) Be familiar with the research and the reflexion on Italian historical vangard, both on its recent critical developments and on its historical ones.

2) Have deeply based knowledge about Futuristic vangard, either under the cultural perspective and the literary one, as well as all the several trends that grew and developed under its field.

3) Know how to tackle with different means of artistic expression and its programme. 

4) Be able to present results of their research namely through the production of a critical paper.

Syllabus

This course unit aims to provide students with a set of research topics on  Filippo Tommaso Marinetti and the Futurism:

1) Inquire and questioning of the vanguard’ s concept facing its critical significance. Futurism as historical vanguard and the dissemination of vanguard movements from then till nowadays.

2) Cultural, literary and political framework of the Futurism.

3) Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Futurism as a group movement, trends and tensions.

4) The Futuristic programme and the relation between arts.

5) The 2009 centenary, its echoes and the projection of the movement all arround the world.
