Recommended Prerequisites
It is essential that students have basic knowledge of preceding areas of the Integrated Master in Medicine, including: Anatomy and Phisiology. Additionally, students need to have knowledge of English language and basic information technologies.
Teaching Methods
1) Expository methods combined with problem based learning and basic surgical training in simulated models.
2) O - Observation of surgical procedures in the ward.
Learning Outcomes
Fundamentals of experimental surgery, including the concept and historical perspective of experimental surgery.
Models in Experimental Surgery and legislation on Animal Welfare and biosecurity in experimental surgery.
Surgical techniques in experimental surgery, basic surgical instruments, skin surgery techniques including learning of surgical knots and sutures, and introduction to minimally invasive surgery and microsurgery.

The knowledge of the requirements for the development of a scientific project using live animal models and the student contact with the surgical training practice in the laboratory is important for training and enriches the acquisition of skills required for the future practicioner. It is essential that the student understands and values the knowledge and skills acquired in the practical classes and links them to what is expected of him in the future professional context.
