Recommended Prerequisites

Students must have completed year 4, having already acquired knowledge and competence in the basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology, pathology, pharmacology, among others), in the social and behavioral sciences (medical psychology, population health, among others), in general clinical skills (introduction to medical practice, medical pathology and medical therapeutics, among others) and in ethics, deontology and professional practice, which will allow them to learn and integrate the contents of this curricular unir, in order to achieve the skills defined.

Teaching Methods

1) T: expository method and verbal interaction with students;

2) TP: clinical cases (Problem-based Learning);

3) P: role-playing techniques (Role-play), observation of children with acute infectious disease in the emergency service (Experential Learning).

Learning Outcomes

1) Knowing how to consult the sick child in an emergency service, in particular the child with the most common acute infections;

2) Knowing how to identify the critically ill child;

3) Knowing the primary prevention of infectious diseases;

4) Be able to think critically, make evidence-based decisions, communicate, work in a team and manage time.

Syllabus

1) The consultation of the child with an acute illness in an emergency service;

2) General principles of antypyretic use and antibiotic therapy in acute infectious illness;

3) Clinical manifestations, complementary diagnostic tests, treatment and guidance of acute infections in a pediatric emergency service;

4) Primary infection prevention: vaccines;

5) Recognition of the critically ill child.
