Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine

Recommended Prerequisites

The knowledge and technical skills acquired over the previous years are tottally sufficient.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical lessons / 1.5 hour and half a week; pratical lesson / 1 hour week.

Learning Outcomes

To know the specifics of clinical report in rehabilitation medicine.

To know the concepts "disability, activity and participation".

To know the concepts of functionality, functional prognosis and rehabilitation potential.

To know different therapeutic modalities (pharmacological, physical agents, kinesiological techniques and assistive devoices (prostheses, orthoses, walking aids, …).

Identify and intervene in the sequelae of immobility and prolonged bed rest.

Rehabilitation in the community and home care.

Know the clinical intervention of rehabilitation in continued and palliative care.

Know the rehabilitation program in different pathologies - neurological, musculoskeletal, geriatric and clinical of falls, pediatric, cardiorespiratory, chronic pain, sports traumatology.

Syllabus

1 - The evolution of MFR, the specificity of the clinical report. The concepts of disability, activity and participation.

2 - Physical modalities, kinesiological techniques 1 (thermotherapy agents, electrotherapy, vibrotherapy, phototherapy).

3 - Physical modalities and kinesiological techniques 2 (joint mobilization, muscle strengthening, proprioceptive training).

4 - The sequelae of immobility and prolonged bed rest.

5 - Geriatric rehabilitation and the fall clinic.

6 - Medical rehabilitation in stroke, in spinal cord pathology.

7 - Medical rehabilitation in demyelinating disease, in movement disorders.

8 - Medical rehabilitation in arthritic disease and low back pain.

9 - Pediatric rehabilitation.

10 - Rehabilitation in cardiac and respiratory pathology.

11 - Rehabilitation in sports traumatology.

12 - Rehabilitation in chronic pain.
