Recommended Prerequisites

Human Anatomy, particularly the structures of the musculoskeletal tract and (central and peripheral) nervous system, among others.

Human Physiology, particularly understanding muscle activity, nerve conduction, (nociceptive and neuropathic) pain physiology, cardio-respiratory activity, physiology of stress, among others. 

Pathophysiology, understanding basic mechanisms of response to aggression.

Medical Clinics, particularly in the osteo-articulatory, rheumatism, neurological, cardio-respiratory, pediatric, geriatric area, and medicine of physical activity, among others.

English language and applied medical statistics.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical lessons / 1 hour week; pratical lesson / 1 hour week; tutorial orientation / 2 hours; visite to PRM department / CHUC adults and pedaitric patients / 2 hours.

Learning Outcomes

Understand the concepts of "disability, activity and participation" as consequences of disease.

Understand  the specificities of the clinical history in rehabilitation medicine and promote a functional approach to the patient.

Identify and know how to prevent the sequelae of prolonged immobility and lodging.

To know the clinical intervention in continous care.

Know the role of physical agents, kinesiological techniques and product support (prostheses, orthoses, walking aids, ...) in rehabilitation medicine.

Learn the main lines of the rehabilitation program and the functional outcome in neurological, cardiopulmonary, pediatric ,geriatric and exercise pathologies (rehabilitation of rheumatic and orthotraumatic diseases is taught in the block of Musculoskeletal Pathology,  2nd Cycle of MIM).

Syllabus

PRM and the concepts of impairment, activity and participation. Function.

Physical agents and kinesiological techniques.

The sequelae of prolonged immobility, treatment and prevention. Continuous and palliative care. Home support and visit.

Geriatric rehabilitation,  falls and rehabilitation,  rehabilitation in specific pathologies (fractures, osteoarthritis, amputation, stroke, dementia, chronic pain).

Pediatric rehabilitation..

Stroke rehabilitation, brain injury rehabilitation, spinal cord injury rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation in movement and demyelinating diseases (Parkinson, multiple sclerosis)

Cardio-respiratory rehabilitation (ischemic heart disease and PCOD).

Chronic pain rehabilitation.

Rheumatic and orthotraumatic rehabilitation is taught in the block of PME,  2nd Cycle of MIM).
