Recommended Prerequisites
Neurology. Knowledge on Infectious diseases, ENT and Trauma Surgery may be useful in some issues.
Teaching Methods
Theoretical classes (11x 45´), theoretical-practical classes (11x1h; on the subject of the previous theoretical one), and practical classes (3x4h at the emergency department and at the operating room, for oriented observation of neurosurgical interventions and emergent pathology, upon schedulling by the student).
Learning Outcomes
The student should, at the end of the learning period, be able to:
1. To develop a comprehensive clinical note and a detailed neurological examination, focusing on the relevant aspects of both.
2. Identify abnormal findings in the neurological examination
3. To formulate a diagnostic hypothesis in the context of Neurosurgery.
4. To develop adequate strategies in order to explore formulated hypothesis (exams, differential diagnosis)
5. To implement a clinical plan to adequately deal with the identified problems (treatment, prognosis).
