Recommended Prerequisites

Students should be based on an accomplish knowledge in both fundamental theory and medical practice. The comprehensive and integrated knowledge they have acquired in the basic biomedical sciences (anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, cell and molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, pathology, pharmacology and general therapy among others), in the social and behavioral sciences (medical psychology are indispensable , sociology, biostatistics, epidemiology, community medicine and public health and hygiene), general clinical skills (medical pathology, pathology, surgery, neurology, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology among others) and communication skills and medical ethics

Teaching Methods

Lectures - two hours per week, must be present in 80%, which addresses all program content.

Practical classes - three hours a week, record attendance, taught in groups 19-20 students. Each class is always accompanied by the same teacher. These classes are directed primarily to the domain of the acquisition of skills and attitudes necessary to perform a query of child health. Different teaching techniques are used as in small groups learning.

Learning Outcomes

Learning of Pediatrics I want to equip students of future skills that will allow as general practitioners, ensuring the health of the population aged 0 to 18 years in primary care. For this they have to know:

1- hold consultations child health surveillance;
2- Solve the most frequent situations in pediatric practice;
3- Timely referencing problems that should be directed to the pediatric hospital or other specialized services.

Syllabus

Clinical History and consultation in pediatrics. Neonatology. Food and supplements. Growth. Neurodevelopment and behavior. Sleep in children. Adolescents health and prevention. Queries surveillance of child and youth health: Key messages for key ages. Vaccines. Child with fever. Children with upper respiratory disorders (Nasopharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis, sinusitis, laryngitis ...). Exanthematous Disease of Childhood. Lower respiratory diseases (bronchiolitis, recurrent wheezing,  foreign body aspiration, pneumonia and bronchopneumonia). Allergic respiratory disease. Food and medication allergic disease. Vomiting. Abdominal pain – medical and surgical causes. Acute diarrhea / gastrenterite.
