Normal anatomy of the human musculo-skeletal system and peripheral nervous sustem.

Patophysiology of the inflamamtory and immune response

Knowledge of bone metabolism and repair

Knowledge of pain  physiology and neuromuscular control

Knowledge of principles of pharmacology

Basic competencies of clinical interview and examination

Basic competencies of interpersonal communication

Basic competencies of information technology

Good level in the use of written English language

 

 

Teaching Methods

Theoretical classess are interactive and will highlight and debate critical or more difficult aspects, rather then the passive exposure of content. Practical classess will teach practical skills and demonstrate the management of real cases relevant to the objectives of this Unit. Seminars will debate interdisciplinary themes. Appropriate reading sources will be provided. Teachers will adopt the role of "facilitators or learning", attributing to students the critical role in driving and assessing personal learning.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this subunit, the student should be able to:

1. collect and report a concise, precise and clinically meaningfull medical history of patients with musculo-skeletal diseases, including trauma.

2. Select, characterize and priorize clinical problems presented by patients, comunicating them in a concise and rigorous way

3. To establish and critically support a differencial diagnosis plan

4. To select the most adequate lab and imaging tests, taking into accountg their potential value, costs and risks

5. To interpret commonly used lab and inaging texts, evaluating their impact in the investigation and management plans

6. To propose a management plan, including acute trauma care, psychological and social support, referral criteria, medication, surgery, rehabilitation, taking into account co-morbidities and patients' values and preferences

7. To propose and support a follow-up plan
