Recommended Prerequisites

Basic priciples of Anatomy, Histology and Physiology of the Genitourinary Tract; Pharmacology of the main drugs acting on kidney(basic); Microbiology; Knowledge of the main principles of Oncogenesis and Oncologic pathology; English Language;Basic knowledge in Informatics and Statistics.

Teaching Methods

Presencial (Nephrology and Urology) - 1 theoretical class (1 hour) and 1 practical class (3 hours) - weekly.

Learning Outcomes

The student should be able to:

1-To perform a clinical history in a patient with a primary or secondary kidney pathology, pathology of the urinary tract and male genitalia;

2-To know how to establish a differential diagnosis and propose a plan of additional investigation based on the application of  the most appropriate diagnostic tests;

3-To know how to apply a correct and rational therapeutic plan to each pathology, bearing in mind the urgency criteria;

4-To establish a prognosis.

Syllabus

Nephrology: kidney anatomy and histology; kidney physiology; kidney functions; Semiology; ;2-Hydro-electrolytical and acid-base balance; Chronic renal disease; Acute kidney injury; Glomerulonephritis; Interstittial nephritis; Secondary Nephropaties: auto-immune disesaes; cardio-renal and hepato-renal syndromes; Diabetes and kidney and Hypertension and kidney (primary vs secondary); renovascular hypertension.

Urology: Anatomy and physiology of the urinary system and male genital system. Urological Semiology (clinical, laboratory and imaging); Urological emergencies, Urological Instrumentation. Low urinary tract symptoms and BPH. Urological Oncology. Kidney cysts and other benign changes. Urinary infections and Lithiasis. Obstructive and reflux uropathy. Bladder Dysfunctions and Urinary Incontinence. Renovascular HTA; Kidney Transplantation (with Nephrology). Sexual dysfunctions and male infertility.
