Recommended Prerequisites
Knowledge of the Anatomy and Physiology of the ear, nose, oral cavity, pharynx and larynx.
Teaching Methods
Lectures – One hour per week. All sections of the programmatic content are included. Without mandatory attendance.
Practical Classes – Two hours per week, mandatory attendance, 12 students in each group. Each group is always accompanied by the same teacher.
These classes intend to provide mandatory and essential clinical skills for the basic Otorhinolaryngology clinical evaluation. The practical sessions intend to follow the topics covered during the lectures.
Learning Outcomes
The aim of Otorhinolaryngology teaching is to provide skills to deal with common ear, nose and throat problems in the general clinical practice. The student will be able to diagnose and treat common diseases of this specialty. The advanced and specialized formation takes place in the respective residency program.
At the final of the learning period, the student should be able to understand the symptoms and perform the examination of the patients. Thus, the comprehension of the main complementary diagnostic tests and their indications must be included in the skills to achieve. Moreover, it will be extremely required to make the differential diagnosis between emergent and non-emergent disease as well to know which conditions should be subject of referral to the specialist in Otorhinolaryngology.
