Command of the Spanish language is recommended.

Teaching Methods

In each academic year, a list of compulsory-reading literary works will be selected. Classes will function in the form of seminar sessions, relying on the students’ active and permanent participation. Computer and audiovisual resources will be used. The students will have to present critical commentaries on texts distributed by the teacher and will also be required to write and present a final research paper.  

Learning Outcomes

After completing this curricular unit, which will use a comparative perspective, the student will have acquired a critical view on the concepts of the modern and modernity, know the main works and authors from the period in question and understand the fundamental characteristics of modern literature, especially its rupture in regard to aesthetics movements of previous periods.

Syllabus

The curricular unit aims to study issues related to Hispanic culture, literature and language, both in their European and Spanish-American aspects. The course will tend to the monograph, focusing on a specific period or theme defined annually, taking into account the concrete interests of the students.
