Portuguese Language: Usage

Recommended Prerequisites

Knowledge acquired in the units of the area of Linguistics offered in the 1 cycle of Portuguese.

Teaching Methods

The development of the topics is based on theoretical explanations, for the presentation of the core concepts, combined with a more interactive methodology in which the autonomous work of the students is privileged. They will be asked to accomplish tasks that aim at the study of concepts foreseen in the program and their practical application, namely with the design of didactic activities of pragmatic content for Basic and Secondary Education.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing the course, the student is expected to: - master the core concepts covered in the syllabus; - identify deictic expressions in a textand understand its functionality ; - correlate a number of linguistic structures in Portuguese with different communicative goals and distinct social contexts of interaction; - understand the inference processes through which implicit meanings are recovered; - identify and solve problems related to text/discourse cohesion.
