Recommended Prerequisites

First degree with at least 60 ECTS in French.
B1/2 level of French.

Teaching Methods

Classes involve essentially interactive methods, although at times expository methods will be used. Depending on the specific needs of students, certain grammar items will be addressed and exercises carried out. Reading and listening comprehension, oral and written production in student-student and teacher-student interaction. Comparative translation exercises. Exploration and discussion of current topics suggested by the students. Study of short stories by French and Francophone authors. Emphasis will be given to reading comprehension and text production. With these topics, students will learn to develop the skills required by the CECR pour les langues (level C1-2), expand their oral ability and their ability to write and read texts, and further consolidate knowledge cultural and civilizational.

Learning Outcomes

The aim of this course for prospective teachers is to deepen their knowledge of current cultural topics, and their ability to describe fundamental aspects of language use.

Syllabus

This course aims to deepen students’ language competence and revise a number of grammar items. The syllabus will therefore be adapted to the needs of concrete students. However, fundamental items such as l'accord du participe passé, les pronoms relatifs, les modes et les temps dans les subordonnées will be addressed. Comparative translation will be used to address native-language interference (les lusismes), false friends and prepositions. Texts on current topics in French-speaking countries will be studied and discussed with the aim of developing students’ speaking and writing skills as well as their knowledge of relevant cultural aspects.
