Teaching Methods
Student centered teaching encouraging dialogue as well as the active participation of students, and group work whenever possible.
Teaching materials from different textbooks will be used, as well as a variety of authentic materials from real contexts.
Learning Outcomes
This course aims to develop students' competence in German at level B2.1 of the CEFR. The contents can however be adapted to higher levels if students have more advanced skills in German. Proficiency in German obviously implies an adequate knowledge of the German speaking countries and their sociocultural features, which is therefore another important aim of this course. Since this course is part of a teacher training program, the specific linguistic knowledge needed in class will be emphasized as well as the development of autonomous learning estrategies.

– Practice of receptive and productive linguistic skills with emphasis on oral and written discourse as used in teaching as well as on the correction of language errors;
– Grammar contents matching level B2.1 and consolidation of those aspects in which students lack specific knowledge in order to meet their needs, focussing not only on proficiency in the use of language, but also on language awareness and on the metalinguistic knowledge that is required for teaching
– Usage of autonomous learning tools such as dictionaries of various kinds, grammars, among other;
– Contact with topics related to the culture and society of German-speaking countries, focussing on those that are mentioned in the official curriculum guidelines, such as work, school, free time, everyday life, youth, interpersonal relationships, current topics in German-speaking countries; the diversity of the German-speaking world and a comparison with the Portuguese counterpart.
