Recommended Prerequisites

Students must have basic knowledge of Human Geography terminology, as well as didactics and pedagogy knowledge.

Teaching Methods

These include the presentation of contents, clarification of doubts, monitoring of collection and handling of bibliographical, cartographic and statistical data, among others, related to work subjects and fields; presentations and discussion, by the students, of previously defined themes and their respective transmition to the class.

Learning Outcomes

Objectives

- Deepen scientific knowledge in Geography;

- Develop critical thought by reading and discussing scientific papers;

- Collect and handle bibliographical information, along with cartographical, statistical and other data related to specific themes and work fields;

- Encourage the use and exploration in class of several resources available for Geography teachers (Cartography, Geographic Information Technologies, GPS…)

- Discuss the adequacy of strategies and resources to teaching scientific themes in a didactical and pedagogical perspective.

 

 Competences to be developed:

- Encourage critical, independent and creative thought;

- Develop competences of analysis and discussion of scientific subjects to be lectured to basic and secondary education students;

- Demonstrate the ability to communicate scientific contents to the class recurring to adequate and varied didactic and pedagogical methods.

- The core steps of a research project;

- Contextualizing and operationalizing research issues applied to teaching;

- Aspects to consider when collecting, analyzing and interpreting data;

- Resources and strategies for a didactic and pedagogical transmission of contents;

- Presentation and discussion of both the scientific contents researched and the strategies and resources used when transmitting them in a teaching/learning context.
