Recommended Prerequisites

Students must have basic knowledge of geography terminology, didactics and pedagogy.

Teaching Methods

- Lectures;

- Reading of scientific texts and analysis of varied documentation;

- Content debate;

- Oral presentation of works.

Learning Outcomes

Objectives:

- Understand the specificity of research in Geography;

- Identify the research strategies suitable to different socio-educational contexts;

- Recognize the importance of participative research;

- Understand the dynamics, the validity of various methods and techniques in Geography teaching in basic     education and high school.

Skills:

- Prepare work tools that allow the active participation of students in geographic research;

- Organize study visits adequate to the syllabus of the discipline of geography in primary and secondary education;

- Designe the structure of a study group in the school context on a geographic theme.

Theme 1 - Research in class context: the importance of a Geography course

Theme 2 - Investigative practices in a school settings: adopt strategies according to the class, the school and the community

Theme 3 - The challenges and the validity of participative research

Theme 4 - Research-action and Geography specificity:

4.1 - Quantitative and qualitative approaches

4.2 – Work strategies: from individual observation to group work

4.3 - The map and the fieldwork

4.4 - The specific work groups and the "clubs".
