Teaching Methods

Face to face teaching. Emphasis is placed on individual monitoring and personalized guidance of each one of the case studies.

Fieldwork is always present and, at the end of the semester, will be shown in the local to all colleagues.

Depending on the object of study work laboratory may take place.

The use of graphic expression and cartographic representation, in the presentation of results will be worked and encouraged either for presentations in class, or for the final seminar report.

Learning Outcomes

• Start students in scientific research applied to a topic of physical ou human geography, by using a case study;

• Develop appropriate methodology to the case study by combining a variety of techniques, depending on the subject under analysis, favoring both the use of documentary sources, bibliographic, cartographic and others, and field work, either direct observation or the collection of physical materials for further processing including laboratory, if applicable, as well as humans aspects, involving interviews and population surveys.

• Introduce students with analysis techniques used in geography field work , both in information collection in the field, and its subsequent treatment.

• Produce a scientific report, applying the methodology indicated for the treatment of subject of the case study and where are presented the study results applicable to a specific territory.

• Present, in the classroom, the conclusions of the case study.

Introduction:

• Presentation and objectives.

1. Themes presentation and subject to be addressed in each case study (Physical Geography, Natural Risks and Resources; Demography, Social an Urban Geography):

1.1. Themes to be adressed are individually distributed

1.2. Drafting of an individual work plan

1.3. Discussion of the work plan

1.4. Public presentation of the work plan

2. Elaboration of scientific report on the case study

2.1. Geographical location and physical characterization of the study area

2.2. Research on the state of the art, by using documentary sources

2.3. Fieldwork for observation and information collection

2.4. Organization and collected information treatment, using the appropriate techniques for its analysis and representation.

3. Public presentation and discussion of the results.
