Teaching Methods

Lectures whenever possible interacting with students, call for their own knowledge and experience concerning coastal areas. A one day field trip along the coast between Figueira da Foz and Esmoriz to contact with landforms built by the coastal dynamics explained in lectures. Presentation of field analysis methods to study shores and dunes forms and of laboratory analysis of samples collected in these means.

Learning Outcomes

The basic theme of the course will focus on the coastal morphodynamics. The development of the issue falls on the action of the main factors played in the strip corresponding to the continent-ocean interface, what is their role and what is its importance in modeling such a characteristic morphology. Following will be an analysis of major landforms associated with different types of coast. Finally, the various scenarios of future development near the coast, notably in Portugal, will be discussed.
