Teaching Methods

This course has a theoretical and a practical component. Expository methods are used to explain theoretical concepts and principles, which are then applied in the analysis and discussion of texts and concrete examples. These methods are designed to reinforce the theoretical content and foster the students’ critical skills in the analysis of organizations. The final grade is the result of the following elements: attendance and participation in class, grades of the indicidual or group oral presentations and papers and an individual test.

Learning Outcomes

This course introduces students to the general principles of a systemic vision of archive and library organizations and policies, at national and international level. Therefore, its overall goal is to raise students’ awareness about the importance of the idea of organizations as open systems for the integrated management of information systems. In specific terms, students are expected to:

(i) Acquire knowledge on the evolution of information systems;

(ii) Be able to characterize organic and functional typologies;

(iii) Acquire basic concepts and terminology related to information systems and networks;

(iv) Understand the importance of cooperation in the area of information systems.

Students are expected to acquire a new conceptual framework and a new functional language that will enable them to have an integrated management perspective which contributes to value creation and enhancement of competitiveness.
