Teaching Methods

Expository introductions will identify core issues and will lead students to the understanding of operational concepts and selection of references, in a participative way. Students will engage in practical work of organization, formatting, processing and production of digital information.

Learning Outcomes

Introduction to key concepts, terminology and technologies associated with the design and implementation of digital objects and collections, their publication in Web platforms and their preservation. At the end of the course, students should
- understand the main issues related to the design, development and sustainability of digital collections;
- be able to participate in the planning of digitization projects and initiatives;
- have hands-on contact with technology used in projects of digitization and digital publishing.

a) Characterization of digital information and its supports.
b) Digital formats of text, image and other information objects.
c) Digitisation hardware and software, text processing and digital imaging programs.
d) Design and development of digitisation projects.
e) Organization, maintenance and preservation of digital collections.
f) Publication of digital collections on Web platforms.
