Teaching Methods

The following teaching methods will be used in this course:
a) lectures;
b) cataloguing pratice;
c) seminars for the presentation and discussion of individual and/or group exercices;
d) study visits.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students should be able to:
a) identify the functions and objectives of the catalogue as an essential tool for information organization and retrieval;
b) recognise the principles, processes and products of descriptive cataloguing;
c) correctly apply the consolidated ISBD in the description of various types of bibliographic resources (analogical and digital), as well as evaluate, in general, the quality of bibliographic descriptions;
d) identify and evaluate the impacts and changes brought about by information technologies in cataloguing and catalogues.
